Surrealism Comparison

Photographer: Hugh Kretschmer

Title: Boxing Gloves

Date of Work: Unknown

Description: This picture is of hands being depicted as boxing gloves. The hands are laced and are open at the bottom just as real boxing gloves are.

Analysis: A personal image that reflects Kretschmer's fascination and repulsion to the sport of boxing, a theme that seems to continue to appear in his artwork.

Interpretation: I believe that artist it trying to convey that boxing is barbaric and whether you are hitting with your bare hands or with padded gloves it is the same thing.

Judgment: I think the way that Kretschmer portrays the sport of boxing is accurate. Many people relate boxing with fighting on the streets.

Hugh Kretschmer was only 13 when he discovered photography under the guidance of his father. Throughout his 22 year career most of is artwork include a metaphor and hand crafted a trick-the-eye elements. Even though his  fame had come recently he doesn't let that effect his work.

Artist name: Marcel Duchamp

Title: Yvonne and Magdeleine Torn in Tatters

Date of Work:1911

Description: This picture has multiple faces facing in different directions.

Analysis: When you first look at this picture you only notice the two main faces. Then the more you look at it the more face you spot out. Also  because the painting is in different colors which to me define either the different personalities of each face or different emotions.

Interpretation: The painting is made to reflect the different emotions with the color the face is in. Also it represents the different personalities by the direction the face is in.

Judgment: I thought it was unique how the artist hid the other faces in the two main faces. I also like how this painting made me look deeper than most to really see the whole picture.

Marcel Duchamp was a French- American painter and sculpture whose work associated with dadism which is the foundation of surrealism. He was commonly referred along with Pablo Picasso and other famous artist. He had a great impact on the twentieth century. Although by World War I he rejected most of the work by many of his fellow artist as retinal art.

Comparison: The first photo is more of a metaphor than the second picture. The painting by Duchamp was more literal to the different emotions that the artist was trying to convey. I enjoyed Kretchmer's work more because he had the same view I did of the sport and with many of his other works.

David Hockney Inspired Collage

Rebecca Genao, 2014

I created this David Hockney Inspired collage by finding a spot in the park that I thought look artsy and took multiple shots in different directions without moving form the spot that I was standing in. I then went into photo shop and layered them on top of each other to make one big picture of the main location.

To accomplish this photo I took several photos of Morgan. I copied the photos and transformed them into one photo to resemble her.

Where Id Rather Be

I'd would rather be with the cast of Teen Wolf. I took a picture making the same face as Crystal Reed to make my face fit in better. I then cut my face out of my picture and pasted it on the original picture. I then changed the filter to make the tone in my face to match theirs.

Photo Series

This photo was created by taking multiple pictures of myself in the same spot. Each picture was taken with a different hat and facial expression. I then went into photo shop and copied the picture to make a second layer and made it black and white. By doing this i was able to erase the top layer to expose the colors of the hats.

Partner Portrait

This photo was created by taking a picture of my keyboard and making it my background. I then took a picture of Veronica posing as if she was jumping from one spot to another. Using photoshopi cute Veronica out of the picture and made it look like she was jumping form key t key on the keyboard. I then put a shadow underneath her to make it seem more realistic.

Composition Book

Leading Line

Stair case        Rebecca Genao 2014

Leading Line:  A line that lead you to an object or that leads into the distance creating depth.

This photo is an example of leading line containing an object that leads the viewer into the distance. In this picture in particular the hand railing in the bottom right catches the viewer’s eyes first. It then leads their eyes into the distance of the picture.

Vertical

Tobi        Rebecca Genao 2014

Vertical: Picture is taller than it is wider

This picture works well for the vertical element because the subject in it is standing on two feet. This means that the subject is taller than he is wide. Also this image was taking in portrait view.

Framing

Justin Morgan        Rebecca Genao 2014

Framing: Shooting through something to get the main subject behind it. The subject is “framed” by something in the foreground.

This picture depicts framing because the subject is being photographed through something in the distance. In this picture the subject is seen shooting a picture of his own. In the process he is standing between two poles framing him as the main subject.

Distance Close

Up close and personal        Rebecca Genao 2014

This photo is an example of close distance because the viewer is able to see anything but what the photographer wants them to see. You are able to see the hairs on the subject’s face vividly. Even though the photo is taken at a close range you are still able to make out what the image is of.

Informal Balance

Sydney and Gabby        Rebecca Genao 2014

Informal Balance: Different things catch your eye, not just one.

The image above shows informal balance because there is more than one subject catching the viewer’s attention. Even though the subjects in the picture are wearing the same substance on their face they are at different levels of the picture. This causes the viewer to look away from one subject to see the other.
